Purchasing a VPS Server
A VPS server is a good and cost-effective choice for running your own systems, but this option may not be suitable for beginners. A VPS server requires more knowledge about security and the operating system you use on the server.
Once you have decided on a package, select it by clicking on "Order". If you chose a custom package, you will initially see a checkbox with various technical details. If you feel that you don't understand enough about the specifications listed, we recommend considering the following packages: "Standard" and "Performance". These packages are a reliable choice for maintaining a powerful system. If you decide to proceed with a custom order, continue by selecting "Continue" on the right side of the screen.
In the next view, we will ask for your server installation details. If you have a domain that you want to point to your server, enter the domain in the checkbox labeled "Hostname". On every Linux server, the system's root user is named "root", and in the "Root Password" section, you will be asked for the root user's password. Enter the desired password that will be set for the server. In the "NS1 Prefix" and "NS2 Prefix" sections, you will be asked for nameservers that can be installed on your server. If you're unsure, simply enter "ns1" and "ns2" in the checkboxes. You will have the option to select the operating system that will be installed on your server. If you want a Windows Server operating system, you will need to request its installation separately (instructions for that can be found in this article), but Tietokettu does not provide Windows Server licenses with the product purchase. If you want to install a Linux operating system and have not used Linux before, we recommend Ubuntu for beginners. If you want to change your payment interval and save money, you can select it from the top of the screen. Next, select "Continue" from the right side of the screen.
If you are a new customer, enter your information in the provided checkboxes. If you already have a customer account, select "Are you a current customer?" from the top right corner, where you can log into your existing customer account and place the order. At the bottom of the order, you can choose the payment method that suits you, and below that is the "Additional Information" section (Enter information in this column if you want a Windows Server operating system for your server).
After the order, the server details will be delivered to your email (usually takes about 5-30 minutes), but if you provided additional information in the "Additional Information" section, the order will await confirmation from our customer service.
